Chocolate egg custard


  • Milk 500 ml (16 fl oz / 2 cups)
  • Large eggs 4
  • Sugar 4 Tbsp
  • Cocoa powder 4 Tbsp

This rich and nutritious dish, flavoured with cocoa, is always a favourite with children. Serve as a light snack at any time of the day.

Serves 6–8


  1. Combine all ingredients in a bowl and whisk until ingredients are well mixed.
  2. Pour mixture into 6–8 ramekins and cover with aluminium foil.
  3. Place ramekins in a steamer and steam over rapidly boiling water for 20 minutes or until custard is set.
  4. Remove from heat. If serving hot, serve immediately. If serving cold, leave to cool to room temperature before refrigerating for 30–45 minutes.
